5 Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Website Today

A website without traffic is absolutely worthless. If you expect to have any type of success online, you must have traffic landing on your site. But not just any type of traffic, but traffic from very targeted and specific types of people who are already interested in what you have, and are likely to buy.

And relying on only one or two sources for traffic can be hazardous to your business. So in today’s post, instead of talking about the hundreds of ways to get traffic, I’ll briefly discuss five.

1. Advertise on Other Related Websites

Often overlooked, but this is a great source for traffic. Many of the websites your prospects hangout at will likely allow you to advertise your website on theirs. A client of ours sells denture repair kits and one of the websites he advertises on gets about 1 million unique visits per month. 98% of the visitors consists of senior citizens and they allow him to advertise a text-link ad on 6 different categorized pages for only $100 per quarter. Now it’s not often you’ll find a deal like that, but they’re out there if you’re willing to look.

They’ll also allow him to put an article on their site as well for a small fee talking about his product in an ‘editorial’ type of format. Start looking for related sites in your industry too. You’ll usually find an “Advertise” link near the top or bottom of their websites. This is a great source for quality and targeted traffic.

2. USA Today Newspaper Classified Ads Marketing

The USA TODAY is a national newspaper and it’s readers are generally college grads with great incomes… In other words, smart people with the money to purchase your product/service if you do a great job selling it. Classified ads are broken into categories and if you can find a category that matches the product or service you have, then consider running an classified ad.

As with any classified ad, it’s almost impossible to sell a $1,500 business opportunity with the limited amount of space offered. Therefore, we ran lead generation ads that directed them to a pre-recorded voice message to learn about the biz opportunity (and we also directed them to a specific landing page on our website that explained the program in detail).

After listening to a 5 minute overview of the business opportunity, the voice-message prompted them to leave their phone number and mailing details to receive an information package by snail mail. This worked extremely well for us and I’ll talk more about classified ad marketing in a later post.

Running a classified ad in this paper will run you several hundred dollars but keep in mind it’s going out to a national audience. Plus, they’ll also include your ad in their online edition of the paper as well. Contact USA Today’s Classified Ads department today!

Tip: We generally ran our ad in the weekend edition (which sat in hotel rooms on Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and these hotel rooms have Internet access. So instead of getting only one day of exposure, we got three!

3. Getting Website Traffic From Forum Marketing

I know you’ve heard this one before and that’s because it works. Just try it and be consistent. Better yet, pay someone on your staff to do it so it’s done regularly. Find forums that’s related to your niche and add your signature (which usually consists of a brief description of your services with a link back to your website).

The key here is to bring value to the discussion. Don’t write 2 or 3 sentences and expect to get any traffic. Take your time and add content so valuable that people want to click your link to find more of the ‘awesome’ stuff you just wrote.

For example, if you make organic doggy treats, there are forums where thousands of people talk about their dogs all day… Don’t believe me? This dog forum has over 900,000 posts and will hit 1 million soon. And as you can see, this forum post here had an active topic going on about organic dog food. Which would have been a great opportunity for those who were selling an organic doggy treat recipe guide. Forum marketing works and it helps establishes you as an authority.

4. Add Your Details to Your E-mail Signature

This is a very simple, but often overlooked method of getting your website address passed on to potential prospects. An e-mail signature consists of a block of text that automatically gets added to the bottom of all e-mails that are sent out. For example, here is one of my signatures for a site I market:

Discover how to start your own t-shirt business.
Access free tips and resources on our website to
help you get started on a shoestring budget:
www.tshirtriches.com

E-mails tend to get passed around and this free publicity costs you nothing. Also, keep in mind that people are checking their e-mails from their mobile devices. Having your signature with a click-able link to your website makes it much easier for them to access it later. It also makes it easier for them to simply forward your e-mail/text/tweet on to their friends as well.

Also, don’t just put your company name or web address only. Type up a brief and compelling reason to get them to click through. Offer a free report or a download-able coupon. The idea here is to get them to take some type of action. Give them a reason to want to go to your website, or better yet… Give them a compelling reason to pass ‘this e-mail on to their friends’.

If you don’t have a signature attached to your e-mails, add it today.

5. Including YouTube Video Marketing into Your Repertoire

Aside from being the 2nd largest search engine in the world, YouTube marketing is one of my favorite secret weapons. If done properly, it’s a tool that’ll allow you to quickly build a following of people most likely to purchase your products and/or services. Lots of people search YouTube to learn how to do something and by understanding this fact, you should focus on creating video content aimed at establishing yourself as an authority, or as someone very knowledgeable about the topic. And the best way to do that is by ‘teaching’.

For example, I had a relationship with a wholesale supplier of magic tricks. Instead of outright selling the magic tricks, I started a magic school where I taught kids how to do magic. I made up free tutorials and dropped them on YouTube and the response was unimaginable. Instead of outright selling the products, I taught them through video and as a result the sales followed.

Here is a link to one of my first videos… Don’t laugh, this was when I first started using video back in 2007. This video has been viewed nearly 3 million times and throughout the video I referenced our website address to drive people there to learn more tricks. Now I shot that video back in 2007 when I first started learning video — so the quality wasn’t as great, but the content is what the people were after.

But now, I shoot quality video like this one here in the basement of my home using green screen.  And that video was shot with the Kodak Zi8 (a $149 camera from Target (OfficeMax, Staples, Wal-Mart). It can fit in your shirt pocket and outputs HD video. Get one and start educating your prospects today! Or hire us to make video content for you :-)

Here’s the Real Secret to Getting Traffic That No One Will Ever Share With You!

The following post was my response to a comment posted in a small business forum. The young lady owned a website that sold trendy purses/handbags.

All of her problems dealt with the lack of traffic and business coming to her site. The only source of traffic she had was coming from a Google Adwords campaign.

Her question… “Any suggestions and/or ideas on how I can drive more traffic to my website and more sales?”

And the following was my answer!

Traffic. Traffic. Traffic. Everyone wants it, and everyone needs it.

Well… Here’s the truth. It’s going to take a lot of hard work, time, effort, energy and money! If you got the money, then you could probably decrease the amount of hard work, time, effort and energy required.

Anyhow, some of the so-called gurus will tell you to focus all of your efforts and energy on SEO. Others will tell you to go out and write one or two articles. And then you’ll have someone else tell you to setup a Facebook fan page.

But here’s the real deal.

Google Adwords alone will not make you successful. You MUST have traffic and leads coming in from multiple sources. While Google Adwords is a great source to start with, you must have much more traffic flowing in.

If you haven’t added Yahoo and MSN to the pay per click equation, consider that… It’ll probably be cheaper than the money you’re spending on Google Adwords (for whatever reason, the masses seem to think Google is GOD and nothing else matters — BIG mistake).

Another source of traffic can come from advertising on other websites that have your ideal audience. For example, in your case, you sell handbags/purses. What sites do your ideal prospects hang out at? Perhaps you can research demographics of the people who’ve purchased from you already and take that information and try and locate your audience.

If they’re young, hip and trendy, try to locate sites that cater to them.  Maybe a segment of your audience consists of ‘trendy moms’. If so, market and advertise to them.

This site for example, offers advertising…

http://www.mommieswithstyle.com

I don’t know what their rates are, but contact them and find out. They may charge you $100/mo to run an ad – they may charge you $1,000.00. But there are plenty of websites that have your audience and I guarantee you can find some that fits your budget.

When I sold a line of religious apparel back in my day, I advertised on over 100 separate websites… I made a fortune. I started advertising on one website, then the profits I made allowed me to be on two sites, then 5, then 10 and so on…

It didn’t happen overnight. And yes, I paid a FORTUNE in advertising fees each month, but I made a whopping sum of money.

You’ll notice that the big brands spend a fortune in branding, advertising and marketing… I realize you don’t have a $500 million ad budget, but you can scale up and grow slowly and build a solid foundation.

Another option would be to incorporate an affiliate program into your sales process. There are sites that will gladly promote your purses on their websites on your behalf. Each time someone clicks on an ad that’s on their site – it redirects them to yours. If they buy, that site owner collects a small commission.

There are a lot of blogs out there that have huge followings of trendy moms and hip and fashion-minded ladies. Imagine a sales force of 300 websites promoting your purses. You don’t pay them a dime unless a sale is generated.

Obviously, managing an affiliate program isn’t the easiest thing in the world, and building a sales force that represents your product line takes time and hard work as well… But it can be done.

Since you’re already doing pay per clicks with Google Adwords, you should really try placing ads on Facebook. You can also target who sees your ads.  You write a headline, a description, add a photograph and a link back to your website. Facebook allows you to set a budget as well – that way you don’t have to worry about overspending.

Again… The name of the game is getting traffic from multiple sources. You’d be surprised how many people are making a ton of money and they don’t rely on traffic from search engines at all.

And don’t forget the ‘offline’ crowd… You don’t have to put all your money into online advertising. Bring these prospects to your website from the offline world. It could actually be cheaper in some cases.

I once ran an ad in a magazine selling a teeth whitening system. The ad cost me like $1,800.00 if I remember correctly. I sold one teeth whitening system for a whopping $129.00. I totally flunked out on that one…

But then, we ran another ad in a wedding magazine and made a FORTUNE. We ended up running that ad for 18 months. That ad ran us $4,500.00 per month. Now obviously, I didn’t start out that way; we grew into that.

We also mailed postcards – the first few batches didn’t work. But we finally came up with a killer message and a great list of names to mail to and got a winner.

Again, it didn’t happen overnight. And we had many failures too. But we stuck with it. We had multiple sources of traffic.

We also ran radio ads – on the AM stations initially because it was cheaper (and we found these small rural towns to run ads on the FM stations. We were able to test our commercials on the ‘low-low’ and we ran the winners on the larger stations in the bigger cities.

If you really want to be successful, you’re going to have to get outside your comfort zone and try some things.

YES!!! You will have some failures… Just know that from the start. There’s no easy way to making it in this game.

Don’t be tempted by the easy stuff everyone tries to sell you… Most of the time, it’s being rehashed from people who’ve never made a full-time living from the Internet.

You know what I’m talking about… It’s the same old stuff you already heard of… The typical write a few articles, comment on a few blogs, write a couple of press releases and submit videos to YouTube.

Yes… These strategies work. But they do take a lot of time and effort to get them working enough to bring you measurable traction.

One or two articles ain’t gonna cut it… A few tweets ain’t gonna do it. And posting a few comments on a couple of blogs ain’t gonna do much. That’s the reality!

I’m in no way saying it doesn’t work. But it will require you to be consistent with it. And I do mean, VERY consistent. One or two articles a month ain’t consistent. Writing 3 blogs posts a month ain’t consistent!

Another unique idea for your purses could involve you pulling out a video camera and making a trendy show about your purses. Pull out a purse each day and talk about it and add it to your website (add it to your YouTube channel).

Remember — MULTIPLE SOURCES OF TRAFFIC.

Hope this helps!

Cartess

I Want to Make Money Online

That is a phrase I’m hearing more and more as this economy takes a nose-dive. People are losing their jobs, their hours are being cut, they’re losing their cars and homes and they’re all saying… “I Want to Make Money Online”.

I found an old video I made on one of my other sites that I thought would be relevant. It talks about creating a course out of the skills and knowledge you already possess. There are countless people willing to pay you for what you know.

Watch the video to discover how you can capitalize and start making money from the knowledge, talents and skills you already possess.

Receipt Marketing – Instantly Increase Your Transactions by 20% Overnight

If you’re not using your customer receipt as a marketing tool, you’re missing out on an great opportunity to upsell.

That routine e-mail that goes out to a customer who just made a purchase on your website can increase the overall transaction value by 20%. Instead of sending out that generic receipt, why don’t you customize it a little and ask them to buy something?

Experian Marketing Services found that receipts that included a related or relevant product or service, had a 20% higher transaction value than those that didn’t include the up-sell or cross-sell.

After reviewing and comparing 1,800 orders, ship and return/exchange confirmations with promotional emails sent between March 2009 and February 2010, Experian found that customers engage with ‘promo receipts’ at a much higher rate than they do with promotional and branding-focused campaigns.

Could this happens because the customer already knows you, like you and trust you enough to take your advice on the up-sell / cross-sell?

My advise… Start up-selling and cross-selling today, do not delay! It doesn’t cost you a dime more to make the pitch — and the beauty is it’s all automated. No work required from you  once it’s setup.

And who would I be if I didn’t take the opportunity to make a pitch right now… Check this out! We have a way with words and if you need any assistance in crafting up-sell or cross-selling messages that’ll get you a higher response rate, do not hesitate to contact us today!

Why Use Video On Your Website

Adding video to your website can drastically enhance your visitor’s experience. And with the various types of hand-held video cameras (and cell phones with video cameras), it’s a lot easier than you think to make professional-looking videos.

Now you can take hi-def videos with $100 video cameras that can fit in your pocket. You can buy these from Staples, Office Depot, or Wal-Mart for about $119 (or buy them used from sites like Craigslist for about $50-$75).

It’s also very easy to record with these camera. You simply slap into your computer’s usb port and it’ll do all the converting for you…

Here’s an example of a video clip I shot with a $149 camera using green screen:

Here Are Some Ways to Start Using Video On Your Website

  1. Get video testimonials from your customers. Instead of talking about how great you are. Pull out the video camera and let your customers do it for you. These testimonials will greatly enhance your credibility and you can put them on your website so they can be seen over and over again.
  2. Make informational videos on topics relevant to your business. Go to YouTube and do a search for “how to see” and you’ll see how many tutorial related videos show up… Most of these ‘teachers’ have their website address at the bottom of the video directing you back to their website where they’ll likely have products related to what you just watched (I make a lot of money from videos I have posted on YouTube — my videos have been viewed over 10 million times — Most of that traffic was directed to my website and it didn’t cost me a dime.
  3. Showcase your product. I’m an antiques dealer and I use video to record the furniture and rare antiques I pickup from auction. I’ve had people drive all the way to Georgia from places like Texas, Florida, North Carolina to buy the items I had listed on my site. The video clips allowed them to view the item as though they were here. It allowed me to close the sell much easier and get more money for my items.Landscapers are using video to showcase their creativity. Beauty salons are using video to showcase their work. Why not show the marketplace what you’re capable of…
  4. Introduce yourself and the company. People like to know who they’re buying from. Take the opportunity to introduce yourself and staff members. This makes your company more ‘real’ and ‘human’, thus removing that ‘faceless website’ feel.
  5. How are you using video. Please share with us how you’re using video on your website — feel free to link us to some of your examples.

Accept Credit Card Payments With Your Cell Phone

This free device allows you to use your cell phone to accept credit card payments on-site and on location. I met a client the other day at his office to discuss making a short 30 second video commercial for his business. He left his check book at home, but when I pulled out my cell phone and the little square box that inserts into my phone to take his payment — he was impressed!

When he saw that, he immediately ordered his free cell phone credit card reader on the spot. Needless to say, that really put a lasting impression on him.
